Description
An incredible cultural heritage from 1863.

A beautiful delicacy known for its fantastic taste and grown today in many parts of the world.

The small artichokes are magical when pan-fried with butter and served with a little aioli.

The larger artichokes are fantastic when baked in the oven with feta cheese and a little parsley, but also boiled and enjoyed with just a little butter as a side dish.

This is a big favorite among our staff at Florea and a recurring variety in our gardens. This friendly artichoke is just as nice to eat as it is to decorate bouquets or beds with.

The variety produces magnificent purple flowers that smell wonderful, which is why it is often seen in many gardens and plantings.

Green Globe is also incredibly popular with all of our pollinators, especially butterflies.

A must-have in the garden, simply put!

Care and cultivation advice

Starting this variety early is advantageous as artichokes take a long time to develop.

The variety is sown indoors in moist sowing soil, planting soil or vegetable soil. One seed per seed pot and if you want faster germination, cover the sowing with transparent covering with air holes. Try to keep the sowing at around 18-20°C until the seeds have germinated. When the plants have emerged, keep the sowing as bright and cool as possible, preferably at a temperature around 12-18°C. Since artichokes are pre-cultivated indoors during the darker months, we recommend that the plants are placed under grow lights for 14-16 hours per day to become lush and strong.

When the plants are large enough to handle and the roots protrude from the underside of the seed pot, they need to be transplanted into a larger pot or planting container.

The plants are then planted outdoors when they have been properly hardened and the last frost risk is over. Artichokes need a lot of space for their feet, so choose a deep and large planting site for the best results. The variety thrives best in well-drained, loose and fertile soil with plenty of fertilizer.
