Description
Black Beauty is a preserved cultural heritage from 1931.

It is a fast-growing variety with incredible plant vigor that produces large, fabulous cylindrical fruits.

The fruits are initially a lovely dark green and then darken to a blacker shade.

The white flesh is of incredibly high quality and has a dark and appetizing flavor.

The zucchini variety is perfect for stews or grilling but is also incredibly delicious fresh in salads.

A big plus is that even the flowers are edible and are incredibly good to fry but also very decorative as a garnish. Black Beauty is a fantastically versatile vegetable in cooking.

Juicy zucchini patties with feta cheese and a little dill.

Colorful squash noodles with crushed tomatoes, pecorino cheese, and walnuts.

Or a panko-fried zucchini with a summery truffle mayonnaise is just a few of all the delicious dishes that this variety is excellent for.

Care and cultivation advice

Pre-cultivate indoors in seed soil, one seed per seed pot. For best germination, cover the sowing with transparent cover with air holes, but it's also okay without. Before germination, keep the sowing at around 22-25 degrees Celsius, and after germination, cool and as bright as possible. When the roots start to emerge from the bottom of the pots, it's time to transplant them into larger pots or planting containers.

When the plants reach a height of 25 cm, they need to be topped, letting 2-4 lateral shoots grow up. The plants are transplanted after hardening off and when the risk of frost is over. The variety thrives well in a sunny location such as a greenhouse or a sheltered warm outdoor area. Squash thrives best in rich and well-drained soil that may contain some compost.

This variety can also be sown directly at the planting site, but for an earlier harvest, we recommend pre-cultivation!
