Description
A charming cosmos variety that has taken our flower hearts at Florea by storm with its unique coloring.

Kiiro is incredibly decorative with its soft cream-yellow color, which sometimes shifts to both cream and light pearl pink.

Our garden expert Johanna Damm calls Kiiro the garden's sunshine, and at her home, it can be found both in the flowerbed and in pots on the patio and around the greenhouse. This variety has fantastic characteristics as a cut flower since it produces long stems and an abundance of flowers that last incredibly long in a vase.

The more flowers you harvest, the more you get, which is a dream for all cut flower enthusiasts.

Kiiro blooms splendidly until the frost arrives and usually is among the last varieties to withstand chilly nights and cold morning temperatures.

Care and cultivation advice

Pre-cultivate indoors in seed soil from March to April. Cover the sowing with a transparent cover equipped with air holes or best germination results. When the seeds have sprouted, the sowing should be kept slightly cooler and in as much light as possible. To encourage the Comos plants to produce numerous enchanting flowers, the plants need to be topped. This is done to stimulate growth, leading to more side shoots, which means more buds and flowers. A recommendation from us is to top or trim it right at the second or third pair of leaves.

Can be planted out when the risk of frost is over. Just like all young plants, this variety need to be protected from strong spring sun. So let the plant stand for shorter periods in the sun for the first few days so that it can acclimatize! Ideally, choose a sunny location, as it will bloom most profusely, but the variety can also grow in partial shade. Cosmos thrives best in rich, sandy soil with not too much fertility. If it receives too much nutrition, it will develop a lot of foliage but unfortunately, very few flowers.

(Cosmos flowers can also be sown directly when the soil has warmed u, but it will have slightly delayed blooming.)

Can also be sown in the fall for bloom the following year. Sow directly in the soil before the frost comes.
