Description
An organic and welcomed addition to the tomato assortment.

Green Zebra is an incredibly beautiful tomato variety with a completely unique and distinctive appearance.

The variety produces medium-sized tomatoes that typically weigh around 100 grams.

Green Zebra originates from the USA, but due to its popularity, it has now established itself worldwide.

The variety maintains its cool green color even as it ripens but develops orange-yellow stripes at that stage.

Renowned for its juiciness and grape-like taste with a delightful touch of tartness. A perfect salad tomato or pickling tomato, according to our customer relations manager Ulrica Cederlid.

She often makes tomato jam with Green Zebra every summer.

Her favorite is when it's mixed with a bit of ginger, a combination she highly recommends!

Care and cultivation advice

Start by sowing indoors in smaller pots from February to April. Fill the pots with 2/3 potting soil or vegetable soil and top with 1/3 seed soil. Try to keep the sowing around 22-25 degrees Celsius until the seeds have germinated, then reduce the temperature to 18-20 degrees. Make sure to store the sowing in a bright spot and water it carefully.

When the roots start to appear at the bottom of the seed pot, it’s time to transplant the plant into a slightly larger pot, this is called re-potting. A tip is to top the plants once during indoor cultivation for a bushier appearance, which will also prevent the plants from becoming too “rangy”.

The tomato plants should be planted outdoors after they have been hardened off properly, and when the risk of frost is over and the night temperature does not drop below 8 degrees Celsius. This variety needs to be tied up and pruned to produce as many tomatoes as possible.

Remember to shake the tomato plants from time to time so that the sweet little yellow flowers are pollinated and deliver more tomatoes. Tomatoes also like to be pampered, so giving the plants some plant food once a week increases the plant’s chances of a plentiful harvest. Use fertilizer that is rich in phosphorus and potassium but avoid fertilizer that contains too much nitrogen as it can give the tomatoes a bad taste.
