Description

The cosmos 'Velouette' is a vibrant variety that brings floral joy to the garden all summer long.

The large, silky flowers have deep wine-red petals with pale, almost white streaks toward the center, creating a striking and lively contrast.

Each bloom has its own unique pattern, giving plantings a natural and playful look. The flowers last well as cut blooms and are just as beautiful on their own in a vase as they are in mixed bouquets.

A variety that thrives equally well in pots as when grown directly in the ground.

Care and cultivation advice

Propagate indoors in seed soil in March-April, preferably cover the seed with a transparent cover with air holes. Once the seeds have germinated, the seedlings should be stored in a cool, bright place for best results. In order for the rose cress to have many fabulous flowers, the plants need to be topped. This is done to stimulate the plant to produce more side shoots, which means more buds and flowers. A tip from us is to top/cut it just at the second or third pair of leaves.

Plant out the seedlings when they have hardened off properly and the risk of frost is over. Choose a sunny position, as this is when it flowers most, but the variety can also grow in partial shade. Rosebay thrives best in rich, sandy soil without too much nutrients. If it gets too much nutrition, it develops a lot of foliage but unfortunately very few flowers.

Can also be sown in the fall for flowering next year. Sow directly into the soil before the frost comes.

(The variety can also be sown directly on the site once the soil has warmed up and can be cultivated, but will then flower slightly later).
