Description

The pumpkin Blue de Hungarian is an elegant variety that catches the eye with its unique blue-grey skin.

This traditional European variety is known for its rich flavor and decorative appearance, making it just as beautiful in the garden as it is on the kitchen counter.

The fruits are medium to large, rounded with a slightly ribbed surface, and have dense, sweet flesh that is excellent for cooking and baking.Blue de Hungarian has a wonderfully rich flavor with a gentle sweetness and a subtle nutty note that becomes even deeper when roasted in the oven.

Its firm flesh makes it perfect for soups, gratins, or pies, and the color remains beautifully golden even after cooking.

Care and cultivation advice

Propagate indoors in moistened potting soil or vegetable soil, one seed per seed pot. Cover the seed with a transparent cover with air holes for best germination, but it is also possible without. Place the seed around 25°c before germination and around 20°c and as bright as possible after germination. A tip to get thick and lush seedlings is to use plant lighting or make sure they are in a really sunny window. Once the roots are peeking out the bottom of the seed pots, it's time to transplant them to larger pots or planters.

Plant out when the seedlings have hardened off properly in a warm and sheltered outdoor location or in a greenhouse. This variety needs a lot of space to grow and produce fruit in a sunny, sheltered position. Pumpkins thrive best in a sandy or light loamy soil. The variety needs plenty of nutrients and water throughout the summer season. Fertilizing many times is a good tip for a successful harvest! This variety likes to climb, so if you have problems with slugs, for example, you can use a trellis or other type of plant support that the vines can climb on.
