Description
The Cucamelon  is a fantastic cultural heritage from 1866 and is actually a Mexican watermelon.

With its enchanting small oval cucumbers with a sweet and sour taste, the cucamelon has become a great favorite in many homes.

In addition to the wonderful green-speckled skin, it is also a fabulous climbing plant that looks very decorative in both greenhouses and on trellises. The variety is perfect for summer salads, various types of pickling, and even for stir-fry dishes.

A hot tip from us at Florea is to use cucamelon in tzatziki.

The variety is perfect for that purpose with its sweet and sour taste.

Care and cultivation advice

Start by sowing indoors in potting soil or vegetable soil, and cover with transparent plastic wrap with air holes or use a mini greenhouse for best results. One seed in each small seedling pot is easiest, but you can also sow several seeds in a larger pot and then transplant them when they have grown a bit to one plant per pot.

Make sure to water the soil thoroughly before planting. Place the seedlings in about 25 degrees Celsius before germination and around 16-20 degrees Celsius after germination. After germination, the plants also need to be in as bright a place as possible, preferably in a sunny window or under plant lighting.

The plants benefit from being transplanted once during indoor cultivation. This means that when the roots appear on the underside of the pot, it's time to move it to a slightly larger pot.

The plants can be transplanted after hardening off, when the risk of frost is over and the night temperature does not drop below +8 degrees Celsius. Plant the seedlings where the roots have plenty of room to grow, such as in a raised bed, greenhouse, or 10-liter pot. Choose a sunny outdoor location, such as a sheltered patio or greenhouse, for best results. Also, remember that this variety needs support to grow nicely and thrive!
