Description

This variety is renowned for its positive qualities such as its good taste, ease of cultivation, and frost resistance.

Scarlet can even withstand temperatures down to -18°C, which means it can be grown with great results in many parts of the country.

In addition to its enchanting appearance, the flavorful leaves are excellent for use in cooking.

Purple kale soup with a dollop of crème fraîche or a colorful salad with feta cheese and pomegranate are two wonderful examples of what this lovely variety can offer in terms of food.

Another fun tip is to use Scarlet to garnish dishes either as crispy chips or fresh for a softer texture. In addition to its fantastic taste, the variety is also incredibly decorative in borders and plantings.

It can be planted with other flowers and crops, but it also looks incredibly stylish on its own, such as in pots.

The beautiful purple curly leaves make Scarlet a lovely addition to any autumn bouquet. This variety contains lots of flavonoids that act as anti-inflammatory agents and help boost the immune system.

It is incredibly nutritious and rich in iron, minerals, vitamin C, vitamin A, and more.

Care and cultivation advice

Sow indoors in seed soil from March to May in planting containers or pots. For best germination results, make sure to cover the sowing with transparent cover equipped with air holes, but it is also possible to sow without it. Make sure to lightly water the soil before sowing and then sprinkle some seeds. Before germination, the sowing should be placed at about 20 degrees and after germination as bright as possible and slightly cooler. Depending on how large the planting container is and how crowded the plants are, it may be necessary to transplant them. Then you can separate some plants if they are too close together and put them in their own planting containers or pots and transplant the new ones so that they have a little more space for their roots and can continue to develop.

The plants are then transplanted after being properly hardened off. The variety can also be directly sown in the planting location from April to June, but for best results, we recommend pre-cultivation. Use fiber cloth to protect the plants from pest insects. The variety thrives best in well-drained and nutritious soil, but can survive in most soil types.

The variety can be harvested from September to December, and it is best after a few frosty nights.

Why we started Florea

Florea grew out of a feeling that something was missing. We couldn’t find anyone online who truly inspired people to grow in a way that felt modern or relevant. It was either very technical or felt a little dated. To us, gardening has always been so much more: something emotional, creative and inspiring.

We wanted to show that gardening is about more than plants. It’s about the feeling of creating something yourself, the calm it brings and the positive effect it has on both body and mind. We felt that side of gardening wasn’t really being given the space it deserved.

What Florea stands for

In a world that keeps moving faster, where more is being automated and AI is always part of the conversation, we feel a strong need to hold on to what makes us human. Growing something yourself is a simple but powerful way to do that.

We often come back to our phrase “Fabrique moi même”, which to us means “created by me”. It captures the heart of what we believe: that the most meaningful things are often the ones you create yourself, even if they’re small or not quite perfect.

A family legacy since 1940

Florea was founded in 2020 by Erik Hoekstra, son of Johannes Hoekstra and grandson of Georg Hoekstra. The company is rooted in a family tradition where gardening and flowers have always been a natural part of life.

It all began with Georg, who grew up among the flower fields of Lisse in the Netherlands. After the Second World War, he began exporting flower bulbs to Scandinavia. Johannes later took over the business, and Erik grew up helping out in the family’s flower fields.

Through Florea, Erik wants to carry on his family’s love of gardening and help more people discover the joy of growing their own flowers, herbs and vegetables.

Beställer du fröer kostar frakten 39kr. Beställer du lök eller knöl kostar frakten 59kr. 

Om du enbart har fröer blir det fraktfritt på beställningar över 299kr. Har du en lök eller knöl i din beställning blir det fraktfritt på beställningar över 599kr.

Hur fungerar det om jag köper både fröer och lökar?

Köper du både fröer och lökar så betalar du 59kr i frakt eller fraktfritt på ordrar över 599kr.

Hur fungerar era förköp?

Förköp betyder att man beställer och betalar för en vara vid beställningstillfället men att vi levererar vid ett senare kommunicerat tillfälle. 

Vad händer om jag köper en vara i lager och en förköpsprodukt?

Om du köper en produkt vi har i lager och en förköpsprodukt så kommer du i kassan få ett val. Antingen skickar vi hela din order när förköpsprodukten är i lager, eller så har du möjlighet att till en liten kostnad få varorna som är i lager skickade direkt, och din förköpsprodukt levereras vid det senare kommunicerade tillfället.

När kommer min beställning, och vilka dagar skickar ni?

Samtliga ordrar beställda innan kl 12.00 skickas samma dag förutsatt att det är en vardag. Vi packar ordrar även på helger men transportörer hämtar endast på vårt lager på vardagar. Inom Sverige är leveranstiden normalt 1-2 arbetsdagar.

Kan jag ändra eller avbeställa min order?

Hör av dig så snabbt som möjligt med ditt ordernummer. Så länge ordern inte har packats kan vi ändra leveransadress, ombud eller fraktmetod, eller avbeställa den helt. När ordern väl är packad går den tyvärr inte att ändra, men du kan returnera varorna enligt vårt öppna köp.

Jag hann inte hämta ut paketet. Vad händer nu?

Paket som inte hämtas ut inom ombudets tidsgräns skickas tillbaka till oss. Kontakta oss med ditt ordernummer så hjälper vi dig att få ordern skickad igen.

Varan är slut. När kommer den tillbaka?

Klicka på "Meddela mig" på produktsidan och fyll i din e-postadress, så får du ett mejl så fort varan finns i lager igen. Fröer som tagit slut brukar komma tillbaka i början av december, lagom till nästa säsong.
