Description
A classic and nice yellow onion with a round shape.

The variety produces beautiful onions with an appetizing taste and fantastic durability.

With the right conditions, it can be stored frost-free for 2-3 months without any problems.

Rijnsburger 5 is perfect to eat fresh or fried but is also magical when caramelized.

The variety is also great for stews, sauces, and roasting in the oven. At Florea, we would like to share two fantastic cooking tips for this charming yellow onion.

The first is baked onion with honey and a little thyme, and the second is a classic French onion soup.

Simply delicious!

Care and cultivation advice

Start indoors or in a greenhouse in March-April, as onions prefer very warm temperatures to germinate. Cover the sowing with a transparent cover with air holes for best germination results. When the plants have sprouted, they need to be kept in a well-ventilated, bright, and cool place.

In the last few weeks before transplanting, it is important to keep the plants at around 15°C; otherwise, there is a high risk that the onion will begin to swell prematurely because the plants think it is mid-summer. The plants are transplanted when they have hardened off properly and the risk of frost has passed.

It is also possible to sow the variety directly in the planting site in early spring, in March-April in the southern parts, when the soil has thawed and is workable. Ideally, the soil should be loose and have a high pH value. Cover with a thin layer of soil.
