Description
Celery cabbage, a pleasant and useful leafy green with white, large, beautiful leaves.

The variety comes from China and is one of the oldest Chinese vegetable crops.

The variety has always been very popular in Asia but has in recent years gained incredible popularity in the rest of the world, especially in Europe.

The stems are very crisp and have a spinach-like flavor, and the fresh leaves are perfect for making soups.

Pak Choi is incredibly delicious to eat fresh in salads or steamed with soy sauce and sesame seeds.

It is also magical to sauté with garlic in a frying pan and fantastic in stir-fried dishes.

A very easy to grow and vigorous variety that has found its way into many gardens.

Pak Choi can also be blanched and frozen if needed but is at its absolute best when fresh. The variety also contains lots of nutrients such as folate, calcium, and vitamins A, C, and K, as well as vitamin B6.

Care and cultivation advice

Start seeds indoors in seed soil from March to April. When placing the seeds, sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top. For best results in germination, cover the seedlings with transparent covering with air holes, but it also works without. Keep the seedlings warm, preferably around 22°C, and when the seeds have sprouted, the seedlings should be placed in a bright and cooler spot. When the plants are big enough to handle, it is time to transplant them into individual pots or containers. Then, plant the seedlings outside when they have hardened off properly, and the risk of frost is over. This variety thrives best in a sunny location with nutrient-rich and well-drained soil.

This variety can also be sown directly outdoors from June to July. Ensure that the soil is well-watered both before and during the germination period, and keep it moist throughout. However, this variety develops best if started indoors beforehand.

A tip for getting nice Pak Choi heads is to ensure a 30 cm distance when thinning out the plants. Cover the plants with a fiber cloth or a net to protect against pests.
