Description
A dark beauty full of the powerful antioxidant anthocyanin.

With its shimmering purplish-black color, Indigo Rose is today classified as one of the world's darkest tomatoes.

With its unique color and plum-like taste, this cool tomato variety stands out as very special.

The tomatoes are initially purplish-black but turn into a deeper dark red with brown tones as the fruits ripen and are ready to eat.

The flavor of the tomatoes has a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness, making it one of the summer's clear favorites. The variety is perfect in decorative salads where the color takes center stage or eaten as it is, as the plum-like taste charms both young and old. Indigo Rose is a high-growing variety.

Care and cultivation advice

Start by sowing indoors in smaller pots from February to April. Fill the pots with 2/3 potting soil or vegetable soil and top with 1/3 seed soil. Try to keep the sowing around 22-25 degrees Celsius until the seeds have germinated, then reduce the temperature to 18-20 degrees. Make sure to store the sowing in a bright spot and water it carefully.

When the roots start to appear at the bottom of the seed pot, it's time to transplant the plant into a slightly larger pot, this is called re-potting. A tip is to top the plants once during indoor cultivation for a bushier appearance, which will also prevent the plants from becoming too "rangy".

The tomato plants should be planted outdoors after they have been hardened off properly, and when the risk of frost is over and the night temperature does not drop below 8 degrees Celsius. This variety needs to be tied up and pruned to produce as many tomatoes as possible.

Remember to shake the tomato plants from time to time so that the sweet little yellow flowers are pollinated and deliver more tomatoes. Tomatoes also like to be pampered, so giving the plants some plant food once a week increases the plant's chances of a plentiful harvest. Use fertilizer that is rich in phosphorus and potassium but avoid fertilizer that contains too much nitrogen as it can give the tomatoes a bad taste.
