Growing Beets

Step 1: Preparation and planning

Choose the right time: Sow beet seeds once the risk of frost has passed and the soil temperature has reached at least 10–15°C.
Choose the right location: Select a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Beets thrive best in bright, sunny conditions.

Step 2: Prepare the soil

Loosen the soil: Use a garden fork or spade to loosen the soil to a depth of about 15–20 cm.
Add compost: Mix in compost or well-rotted manure to improve soil fertility.

Step 3: Sowing the beets

Create rows: Make rows with about 30 cm spacing.
Sow the seeds: Place the seeds evenly along the rows, about 5 cm apart.
Cover with soil: Gently cover the seeds with 1–2 cm of soil.

Step 4: Care and watering

Keep the soil moist: Maintain even moisture during germination, using gentle watering to avoid disturbing the seeds.
Thin the plants: When seedlings are 5–7 cm tall, thin them to about 10 cm spacing.

Step 5: Harvest

Monitor growth: Beets are ready to harvest when they are about 5–7 cm in diameter, usually 6–8 weeks after sowing.
Use a spade: Loosen the soil around the beet and lift it carefully.
