Description
A cool cultural heritage from 1944 with incredible quality.

Beautiful, decorative, yellow pear-like fruits weighing around 2 kg.

Orange flesh with a small seed cavity and a sweet delicate taste with a slight nutty aftertaste.

The range of uses for Waltham Butternut in cooking is vast and at Florea, this is a big favorite of ours.

An orange-colored, delicious, autumnal pumpkin soup with ginger and chili or a magical risotto with oven-roasted butternut squash are two of our favorite dishes with this fantastic squash.

It also goes well with various types of pies and desserts as well as other types of oven-baked dishes thanks to its delightful taste.

Another big plus for this variety is the long storage time of the pumpkins.

The fabulous butternut squash can be stored for 2-4 months after harvest. In addition to the delicious pumpkins, the variety has beautiful vines that grow 1-2 meters long with sweet flowers.

Care and cultivation advice

Start indoors in moist planting soil or vegetable soil, one seed per seedling pot. Cover the sowing with transparent covering with air holes for optimal germination, but it also works without it. Place the sowing at around 25°C before germination and around 20°C and as bright as possible after germination. A tip for getting thick and lush plants is to use plant lighting or make sure they are in a really sunny window. When the roots peek out from the bottom of the seedling pots, it's time to transplant them into larger pots or planting containers.

Transplant outdoors when the plants have been properly hardened off in a warm outdoor location or a larger greenhouse. This variety needs a lot of space to grow and produce fruit in a sunny and sheltered location. Waltham Butternut thrives best in sandy clay soil or light clay soil. The variety needs plenty of nutrients and water throughout the summer season. Let the pumpkin/pumpkins remain outside for as long as possible before the frost arrives.
