Description

The miniature sunflower ‘Italian Green Heart’ features soft yellow petals and a fresh lime-green centre.

The blooms are slightly smaller than those of traditional sunflowers, reaching around 15 centimetres in diameter, which makes them especially beautiful in bouquets as well as in pots and containers.The variety grows steadily to a height of about 110-140 centimetres and produces several branches that give an abundance of flowers throughout the summer.

It looks lovely when planted together with other sunflower varieties or mixed with a range of summer flowers.

Care and cultivation advice

Propagate indoors in March-April in potting soil, one seed per pot. Try to keep the seed at 20-25 degrees before germination and after germination bright and cool. If the roots are peeking out the bottom of the pots, it is time to replant them to larger ones.

The plants are planted out when they have hardened off properly and the risk of frost is over. Sunflowers need a sunny position and plenty of room to grow. It thrives in nutrient-rich planting soil, and for really tall sunflowers we recommend fertilizing and feeding during the season.

The variety can also be sown directly on the site in May-June, but will then flower a little later.
