Description
A well-known, popular, and pleasant pepper variety that produces large, delicious golden-yellow fruits.

The fruits are thick-walled with a crispy, fresh, and tasty flesh.

The flavor is sweet and delicate, which makes the variety excellent for both fresh and cooked use. Yellow California Wonder is a fantastically pleasant variety to use in cooking, so at Florea, we want to share our two favorite recipes with this variety.

The first is a yellow and spicy pepper soup topped with crispy pancetta.

The second tip is a yellow pepper gazpacho served with crispy bread croutons and a little fresh oregano, both colorful and tasty at the same time. A big plus with this variety is that it is organic!

Care and cultivation advice

Start seeds indoors from January to April in smaller pots or containers filled with seed soil. The seeds have a light germination requirement, so moisten the soil, place them gently on the surface, and press them down lightly. Cover the seed tray with a transparent cover with air holes for optimal germination results, but it can also be done without it. Before germination, the seeds prefer to be kept at around 20-25 degrees Celsius, and after germination, slightly cooler but as bright as possible. Since peppers grow slowly and have a long development time, we recommend using plant lighting. This will make the plants much more lush, thick, and strong.

When the roots begin to appear on the bottom of the pots, it's time to transplant them into slightly larger pots or planters. This time, use planting soil or vegetable soil since the plants need more nutrition than before. For a bushier and more lush appearance, the plant should be topped once during the pre-growing period, when the plant is about 15-20 cm tall. For the best growing results, we recommend using weak liquid fertilizer every other week since the plants develop slowly and need a little extra love.

The pepper plants should be transplanted outdoors after being properly hardened off and when the risk of frost is over. Yolo Wonder prefers a protected and sunny location, preferably in a greenhouse or on a warm patio against a wall. The variety thrives best in loose, deep, high-quality soil. A tip is to plant the peppers in slightly larger pots so that they really have space to develop in the best way possible and produce abundant harvests with lots of peppers. A final pot size of at least 10 liters is recommended!
