Description

Fritillaria persica 'Purple Favorite' is a dramatic and elegant variety that adds both height and colour to spring plantings.

The dark purple, almost black-shimmering bells hang closely along the tall stems, and the striking foliage enhances the contrast wherever it is planted.

This variety blooms in late spring and returns faithfully year after year in a sunny spot with well-drained soil.

Thanks to the plant's scent and taste, it is also often left undisturbed by deer and other animals.

Care and cultivation advice

Fritillaria (Fritillaria) is planted in sun to partial shade in well-drained, preferably humus-rich soil. Plant the bulbs at a depth of about 2–3 times the height of the bulb, from late August until the ground begins to freeze. Always plant the bulb with the pointed end facing upward. Allow the leaves to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store nutrients for the next year, and optionally apply some fertilizer after flowering.
