Description
A traditional pumpkin variety with roots from southern France.

Large, beautiful wheel-shaped pumpkins that can weigh up to 10 kg.

A well-known variety that is very popular thanks to its good and appetizing taste.

The variety can be eaten freshly harvested or stored but can also be used for decorative purposes.

The variety is excellent for soups, jams, sauces, or other cooking. We have two really delicious cooking tips with this variety that we highly recommend.

The first is an autumnal pumpkin gratin with feta cheese, spinach, and pine nuts.

The second is a spicy pumpkin pie for dessert with a little lightly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Yum!

Care and cultivation advice

Sow indoors in moist planting soil or vegetable soil, one seed per seedling pot. Cover the sowing with transparent covering equipped with air holes for best germination, but it is also possible without. Place the sowing around 25°C before germination and around 20°C and as bright as possible after germination. A tip for getting thick and lush plants is to use plant lighting or ensure that they are in a really sunny window. When the roots appear on the underside of the seedling pots, it is time to transplant them to larger pots or planters.

Plant outdoors when the plants have been properly hardened in a warm and protected outdoor location or in a greenhouse. This variety needs a lot of space to grow and produce fruit in a sunny, protected location. Musquée de Provence thrives best in sandy loam or light loam soil. The variety needs plenty of nutrients and water throughout the summer season. Fertilizing many times is a good tip for a successful harvest! This variety likes to climb, so if you have problems with, for example, snails, it is excellent to use a trellis or another type of plant support that the vines can climb on.
