Watercress, Nasturtium officinale, is an outstanding plant species in the cruciferous family. It is also known as "spring cress". It is most commonly found in Europe and Asia but has begun to spread to other parts of the world as well. Watercress is one of the plants that has been part of human diets for the longest time and is still one of the healthiest foods to eat today. How cool is that? As the name suggests, this plant's natural habitat is near water, but with the right conditions, it can be grown almost anywhere. Did you know that 100 g of watercress contains more vitamin C than a mandarin and more vitamin E than broccoli? Watercress is incredibly easy to grow and can be grown both indoors and outdoors. It grows in most nutrient-rich soils but thrives best in rich soil. It can handle both sun and semi-shaded areas but needs plenty of water to thrive. Watercress can also be grown indoors year-round in a pot under plant lighting and is excellent for hydroponic cultivation.
