Description
The Vanilla Tagetes is a lovely summer flower with a little something extra.

The full flowers have a creamy white to isabelline yellow color, unlike the more common tagetes varieties.

It is ideal for pot cultivation and is known for its special, slightly spicy fragrance.

The flowers are edible and are often used as decoration on both dishes and pastries during the summer season.

A breakfast tip is to dry the flower petals and then use them in oven-roasted muesli, both delicious and beautiful. (Deer and hares tend to avoid tagetes because of the spicy scent!)

Care and cultivation advice

Propagated indoors in seed soil. Transparent cover with air holes for best germination results. Try to keep the sowing at 20-25 degrees before the seeds germinate and then in a bright and cool place. The variety can be planted out after hardening off when all risk of frost is over. It is possible to sow tagetes directly, but pre-planting is recommended for both stronger plants and earlier flowering. (For longer and more abundant flowering, the plant should be reYellowarly cleared of overblown flowers. It stimulates new growth and new fine buds).
