A charming sweet Matthiola/Gilly flower with double flowers in a beautiful white shade.

Early Iron White produces long and sturdy stems that are excellent for bouquets.

A big advantage is that it also lasts unusually long in a vase – with a little fresh water and new cuts, it can stay beautiful for up to two weeks without any issues.

Unlike other Matthiola/Gilly flower varieties, this one also blooms exceptionally early!

Care and cultivation advice

Pre-cultivated indoors February-April in seed soil. Cover the seed with a thin layer of soil and/or vermiculite. When the seeds have started to germinate, they want to stand in a cooler place, preferably around 6-12 degrees with lots of light for the best result. The first small leaves on the plant will either get dark-green or light-green. The plants that get lighter leaves are more likely to develop double flowers while the dark ones tend to get single flowers.

The plants can be planted out when the risk of frost is over. Just like all young plants, this variety needs to be protected from strong spring sun. So let the plant stand for shorter periods in the sun for the first few days so that it can acclimatize!

(The variety can also be sown directly in April-May on a well-fertilized planting spot)
