Seed·Cosmos bipinnatus

Regular price £4.00
Sale price £4.00 Regular price £4.00
Description
A decorative and easy-to-grow summer flower with great charm.

The flowers are white and enchanting with a beautiful yellow center.

The foliage is green, beautiful, and dill-like with sturdy stems, making it ideal for cutting.

The variety is an enchanting bouquet flower and incredibly popular when mixed with other charming summer flowers.

It blooms magnificently and gracefully until the frost arrives. The cosmos is a species in the family of asteraceae plants and originally comes from Southwestern USA and Mexico, but has been cultivated in Sweden since the 18th century.

It is incredibly popular with all our pollinators and the ultimate attraction for a kitchen garden or other cultivations. This is a popular variety for us at Florea and a recurring feature in our gardens, but it is also a favorite variety of Johanna Berglund (Snickarglädjen), one of our ambassadors.

Care and cultivation advice

To get the best results, start indoors in seed compost from March to April. Cover the seedlings with a transparent cover with air holes. Once the seeds have germinated, keep the seedlings cool and in a bright location. To encourage more flowers, the plants need to be topped, which means cutting the main stem just above the second or third set of leaves to stimulate side shoots and produce more buds and flowers.

After hardening off, the plants can be transplanted outdoors when the risk of frost has passed. A sunny location is ideal, but the variety can also grow in partial shade. For optimal growth, use well-draining soil that is rich in sand and low in nutrients. If the soil is too nutrient-rich, it will result in excessive foliage growth but fewer flowers. Alternatively, the variety can be sown directly into the ground once the soil has warmed up enough.

Can also be sown in the fall for bloom the following year. Sow directly in the soil before the frost comes.
