Allium 'Party Balloons' is a vibrant and eye-catching ornamental onion that truly lives up to its playful name.

With its large, round, purple flower heads that resemble floating balloons, it brings both structure and whimsy to the garden.

The blooms are held on tall, elegant stems reaching about 50–70 cm, creating an airy and stylish presence in borders and mixed plantings.

It flowers in early summer and is highly attractive to pollinators.

One of our favorite tips at Florea is to pair 'Party Balloons' with ornamental grasses and catmint—a dreamy combination!

(Not favored by deer or other animals, so it gets to bloom undisturbed!)

Care and cultivation advice

Plant the bulb with the pointed side facing up, at a depth that is 2–3 times the height of the bulb. If you live in an area with frequent ground frost, plant it even deeper to provide extra protection. Don’t forget to water after planting.

To encourage long-lasting and recurring blooms, allium bulbs should be fertilized in the following seasons, especially in poor soil. Do this when the bulb is in active growth—during spring and early autumn. Use composted cow manure rich in phosphorus and potassium, or a classic bulb fertilizer.
