Description

A fantastically beautiful gladiolus variety in a dull old pink shade with small and beautiful hints of apricot and misty grey.

This is one of our absolute favorites and a variety we find it very difficult to be without.

The fancy flowers burst out bud by bud and leave no one untouched.

Chloé is strikingly beautiful as a background plant in flower beds interwoven with other lower flowers or on its own in a fancy pot where they can take up a lot of space and be seen.

It has long and sturdy stems that are excellent for cutting.

This variety is not only a favorite with us at Florea, but Chloé is also really popular with all our pollinators who like to flock around the fancy flowers.

(A big plus with gladiolus in particular is that deer don't like them, which means that you usually get to leave your beautiful flowers alone!)

Care and cultivation advice

Gladiolus is the crown jewel among autumn cut flowers and is known worldwide thanks to its long shelf life in a vase. The tubers should be planted in early spring when the frost has left the ground and the risk of frost is over. Be sure to choose a sunny but sheltered spot and then plant them shallow, about 5-10 cm deep. If the soil is still very wet and heavy, wait until it has dried up a bit. Gladiolus thrives best in well-drained and porous soil that contains manure. It is also perfectly possible to grow Gladiolus in a pot, but then make sure to use a slightly larger one.

If you want to harvest the beautiful flower buds, it should be done when the first bud is about to break out and you can glimpse the color of the flower. Then they gratefully bloom indoors bud after bud for a long period if they get access to new and fresh water.

When the cold comes and the frost is a fact, it is time to dig up the tubers again. They should then be stored cool and dark, but it is very important that it is frost-free. If you have grown Gladiolus in a pot, you do not need to dig up the tubers, but it is fine to store the whole pot for the winter.
