Lavender
Seed·Lavandula angustifolia
Description
Lavender is a popular perennial that can now be found in most gardens. Its purple flower spikes and silvery foliage release a soft fragrance while bees and butterflies gather eagerly around the nectar-rich blooms. It tolerates drought remarkably well, making it just as beautiful in dry slopes as in well-tended borders. As a perennial, lavender returns year after year and requires very little maintenance. It is as useful as it is beautiful. The flowers can be dried to scent linen cupboards or used in wreaths and sachets. They are also edible and lovely to sprinkle over cakes or stir into sugar, honey or tea for a gentle floral flavour.
