Description

Mullein ‘Southern Charm’ is a colourful perennial that brings warmth and soft hues to the garden.

The flowers shimmer in shades of apricot, rose and pale lavender, arranged closely along tall stems that rise above the fresh green foliage.It is hardy, easy to grow and wonderfully free-flowering.

The spire-shaped blooms are excellent for cutting and combine beautifully with other summer flowers.

A favourite in bouquets is to pair Southern Charm with dahlias, where the contrast between the different shapes creates a lovely balance between wild and refined.

Care and cultivation advice

(Kingsfoot can be pre-seeded indoors early in the year or direct seeded outdoors in the fall.)

Propagation indoors: Sow the seeds shallowly in moistened seed soil between January and April. Cover with a thin layer of soil or vermiculite. After germination, place the seedlings in a bright and cool place. Use deeper pots, as the plants develop long tap roots. Plant out after hardening off when the risk of frost is over.

Autumn sowing outdoors: Sow directly on the plant site in the fall, when the soil is warmed up. This results in earlier flowering the following season.

(To encourage a second flowering - cut off the middle flower stalk just above the side shoots when it has finished flowering).
