Description

A hardy and beautiful string bean originating from the Ståstorp farm in Skåne, where it has been grown and preserved for several generations.

The variety is part of the Swedish cultivation heritage and is still grown in Sweden on a small scale.Ståstorp produces tall plants with rich foliage and purple flowers, followed by long, smooth pods with a beautiful violet color.

The beans are thin, crisp and mild in flavor - good to eat fresh, lightly cooked or stir-fried.

The color disappears when cooked, but the taste remains.

Care and cultivation advice

This variety can be propagated indoors but is best sown directly on the plant site. Propagation: Sow broadly in potting soil with about 2-3 cm between the seeds. If the roots are peeking out from the bottom of the pot, they need to be replanted in a larger one. The broad beans can be planted out when the plants have hardened off and the risk of frost is over. Direct sowing: Sow directly in the planting site April-June with about 2-3 cm between the seeds. Remember to water the soil well before sowing and keep it moist until the plants have emerged. This variety does not usually need any plant support. Growing tip: The pods are harvested when they have reached their full length, which is around 12-14 cm, but are still so wonderfully light green, flat and crispy!
