Description

A unique Sugar Snap Pea with roots in Dalarna, preserved for generations since the beginning of the 20th century.

The variety is named after the locomotive driver Bergfält, who once shared the seeds with a train dispatcher and in this way this fantastic pea was saved from oblivion.

This is a tall variety that can grow over two meters, with a bushy growth habit and beautiful light purple flowers.

The pods are very large, often over 10 cm long and unusually wide, with a sweet and mild taste.

They are best eaten tender and fresh, but also work well for stir-frying or freezing.

Lokförare Bergfälts Jätteärt is not only a productive and tasty sweet pea, it also carries a living history.

A hardy, easy-to-grow variety for those who want to grow large sweet peas with fantastic taste.

Care and cultivation advice

Sow in the growing area as soon as the soil is workable. The variety thrives best in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Soak the seeds for an hour or so before sowing to speed up the germination process. Make sure to water the soil thoroughly before sowing and keep the seeds moist throughout the germination period.

The variety needs a plant support to be able to climb and bush itself.

(Feel free to change the location of the peas every year as sugar peas fertilize and improve the soil by adding nitrogen-fixing bacteria via their roots.
